Letting it Flow

I found this old painting outside my home; it’s been hanging out in our backyard for years now. Beautiful in its prime, the weathered canvas now ached to be cracked open.

So, I obliged. Who could ignore that face?

Amidst the demolition, I tried saving the big pieces: important memories and lessons to keep in mind.

A gaping hole emerged, but there was more breaking down to do. Will transformation ever be over?

The canvas exposed its flaws: ugly vulnerability.

I started to think that the flaws are actually beautiful, a new lens emerging.

Then, I made glue! It’s time to try something new. I invited the bonding to shape my view.

I ground up all the cracked-off paint from before, then my hands meditated the reshaped ideas into illogical positions. My DIY glue held everything in place, adding an unexpected shine.

Look! She’s glowing.

Green paint and more repositioning followed; everything is complementary if you look closely enough.

I began to notice something forming: an ecosystem of change. Chaotic and separate and old and new and smooth and crumbly, but all made up of the same stuff.

The separation was an illusion; everything is always colliding.

I added some detailing, and the unassuming river flowed into bold ocean waves. A current of transformation that belongs to itself only.

What will we notice moving next?
